Understand Narcissistic Relationships. Make Better Decisions.
When you’re involved in a narcissistic relationship with a partner, a difficult family member, or a high-conflict relationship, it can become difficult to know what is true, what to do next, or even whether you’re overreacting.
For more than 40 years, I’ve helped people understand difficult relationships, recognize emotional manipulation, establish healthier boundaries, and make decisions with greater clarity and confidence.

From Confusion to a Clear Plan
If you’re here, you’ve probably spent months trying to understand what’s happening in your relationship. You’ve read about narcissism, emotional abuse, gaslighting, trauma bonds, and boundaries, yet you may still feel uncertain about what to do next.
Insight only matters if it helps you make better decisions.
Drawing on more than forty years of experience as a psychologist, I help people organize what they already know, identify the patterns that have been keeping them stuck, evaluate their options realistically, and develop a clearer plan for moving forward.
Whether your goal is to improve the relationship, establish healthier boundaries, prepare to leave, or simply understand your situation with greater confidence, the objective is the same: replacing confusion with clarity, uncertainty with confidence, and feeling trapped with a realistic path forward.
Who I Help
People seek consultation for many different types of relationships, but the goal is often the same: to better understand what’s happening., evaluate their options, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Partners & Spouses
For people trying to understand painful, confusing, or emotionally difficult intimate relationships.
Former Partners & Co-Parents
For those managing high-conflict separation, divorce, or ongoing co-parenting dynamics.
Family Members
For adult children, parents, siblings, and relatives dealing with difficult family patterns.
Workplace and Friend Relationships
For employees dealing with difficult coworkers, supervisors, workplace dynamics or friend relationships.
Professionals & Business Owners
For those facing manipulative, high-conflict, or destabilizing professional relationships.
Mentors, Professors & Authority Figures
For those navigating difficult, manipulative, intimidating, or confusing relationships with mentors, professors, advisors, coaches, clergy, or other authority figures.
What Consultation Looks Like
Many people come to consultation with questions such as:
- Should I stay or leave?
- Can this relationship improve?
- Are my boundaries reasonable?
- Am I overreacting?
- How do I respond to this behavior?
These are rarely simple questions, and quick answers are rarely sufficient.
Most people begin with a 90-minute consultation designed to help them gain a deeper understanding of their situation, identify important relationship patterns, and evaluate their options moving forward.
Together, we examine relationship dynamics, explore practical strategies, and consider approaches that fit your unique circumstances, goals, and values.
Many people find that a single consultation provides the clarity they need. Others choose to schedule one or more 60-minute follow-up consultations to continue exploring important issues, refine strategies, or address new developments as they arise.
The goal is greater clarity, greater confidence, and a clearer path forward.

Meet Dr. Michael Zande
I am a licensed clinical psychologist with more than forty years of professional experience helping people understand complex relationships, navigate difficult decisions, and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Throughout my career in private practice and with the Department of Veterans Affairs, I have worked with individuals facing some of life’s most challenging situations. I am also the author of When They Won’t Change, a practical guide to understanding narcissistic, manipulative, and emotionally difficult relationships.
In addition to my clinical work, I trained and mentored psychologists and other mental health professionals, helping prepare the next generation of clinicians.
I believe people rarely need someone to tell them what to do. They need someone who can help them clearly understand what is happening, recognize important patterns, and thoughtfully evaluate their options.
My goal is to help people make sense of difficult relationships and move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and peace of mind.
